My Story

Just introducing myself, to give a little background on my story, and my mission to help women ‘drink less and live more.’

There are many different types of drinkers. I am a binge-drinker, with no off switch. For me drinking was all about connecting so I didn’t feel alone. Yet at the same time it was also the thing which disconnected me the most - from friends, family, and also from the essence of me.

I was brought up in South Africa and my parents separated when I was seven. I moved with my mum and sister from the wilds of Africa to the wilds of Essex, and everything changed.

When boredom and adolescence kicked in, I began to rebel. I embraced the 90s rave scene and found the perfect mix of ingredients to help with a chronic lack of confidence - drink, drugs, music and like minded people! What was fun at first became less so as time moved on, and the come to’s and come down’s got harder to handle and chipped away at my self esteem. Yet I was highly functioning with good jobs and friends. I just didn’t like me very much and didn’t know how to change my behaviour.

The next 25 years were filled with travel, work, parties and pubs. Lost shoes, wallets, keys and dignity. Other people just didn’t seem to drink as much as me or create as much drama on a night out. I began to feel isolated and depressed. I tried everything to change my behaviour but I always had the same result - blackout and shame.

After meeting my lovely partner and becoming a mum, things calmed down a little - having no social life helped a lot and hangovers are no fun when you’re sleep-deprived. But my loneliness intensified.

Long story short, in the summer of 2013 I had the good fortune to watch a friend take part in a webinar called ‘High on Life’. This featured 8 women in recovery sharing their stories, their expertise and knowledge. These real and inspirational stories of transformation quite literally changed my thinking & drinking overnight.

The last decade has been a journey to recover my self esteem, my confidence, and to reclaim my power.

To find out who I am and what lights me up.

I celebrate the simple, everyday things which make me happy. A sunrise and sunset, good coffee, running, surfing and friendship.

You’ve got to have a plan and lots of support in place.

Change and recovery is very possible, and can be a magical journey with unexpected joy and insights. I never regret waking up early without a hangover, and I never regret my decision to get sober and live with purpose and intention.

Sobriety really is the ultimate life upgrade.

It’s a second chance, a love letter to yourself, and the greatest gift you’ll ever give to your future.
